Guest speaker from Pupilsphere

Amelia Lonsdale is the director at Pupilsphere, an international photography network whose target audience is students and graduates. Pupilsphere is not funded and ran by volunteers, the company’s aim is to connect photographers all around the world as well as giving them exposure. The website features projects, interviews and articles on up and coming photographers. The support that they offer includes, mentoring, exhibition help and book launches as well as critical evaluations. Profits from the online shop goes back into helping to run the platform and the shop has also helped photographers to sell their own first project book.

Amelia is currently studying a masters of research at the University of Huddersfield. The photography that she specialises in is Landscape. As well as working at Pupilsphere she also works in events and management. Amelia has shown numerous exhibitions between 2017 and 2020. Her most recent exhibition being ‘The Time We Call Our Own’ at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool. 3rd September - 23rd October 2020. The exhibition featured a range of artists who came together to show their photographic projects that were about time, identity and place. Amelia’s project was titled ‘Miles and Other’s Smiles’ and is a selection of home fashion and music.

Amelia was the guest speaker at an online lecture that I attended today in which she talked about what the Pupilsphere company is and that there is an open call competition for graduates of this year, that they are holding from the 1st April till the 31st May 2021. When I look back on Amelia’s talk what I find really useful is that she has shown me what resources are out there for both students and graduates.
